Merchandising de las ciudades. City merchandising.

At home we have the habit of bringing a fridge magnet as a souvenir from the city where we have been individualy or all toghether. If the souvenir industry is the most well known in the business of tourism to cities, I introduce two extreme examples of how history, the past of the city and its conception of modernity can be converted into an image, an icon and it can be merchandised. Recently I could contrast two very different cities as Toledo and Berlin, two old capitals of important kingdoms and empires. Meanwhile both exploit its oldest history, Berlin is differenciated by its merchandising of the recent history or the common walking man at the traffic light. Other sample will be the piece of old wall with certification of authenticity. But among multiples samples I should remark the homage to an old car as merchandising of the whole country: Trabant car. The fridge magnet includes a miniature of the historical and popular car made in the former Democratic Republic of Germany (DDR).

Meanwhile the souvenirs from Toledo go from traditional crafts up to suit of armor and heavy swords, and as an image of modernity the botijo shop. It is true that visitors are looking for the genuine in any city, and they are not looking for modernity in Toledo, as they do not look for to discover Middle Ages in Berlin.

The difference is in the convertion into value that the city makes from itself. Another data: as a sample of reception to Berlin city from one of its airports, the fantastic bus Neoplan. An invitation to visit the future.

Nuevos consumidores: los adolescentes también juegan. New consumers: teenagers also play

Nuremberg Toy fair 2012 insights (Part II)
Toys4Teens – new ways for toy retailers to reach teenagers
Teenagers like playing – with classic toys too. With a new study, the International Toy Fair does away with the prejudice that teenagers are a lost target group for toy retailers. On the 300-m² theme area, retailers and visitors can see the products teenagers really rave about. The presentation is also intended to give retailers inspiration for arranging their own sales areas. As the study shows, teenagers like buying in toyshops and rate these much more favourably than the shop owners think. To bring both sides closer together, the Toy Fair Special gives visitors many recommendations on how to reach today’s teenagers.
An empirical study on the purchasing and play behaviour of teenagers offers scientific background information on this topic. An interesting contribution from the fair, with documentated content and a very attractive staging.
